There were a lot of interesting rides at Katie's Cars and Coffee this weekend. Arguably the star of the show was the 1951 Cunningham C2-R, but there was plenty of other interesting metal there, including a Volvo Amazon, McLaren 650S Spider, and even a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon . Check out the highlights below.

My grandfather's shop restored one of these! It was chassis 5105, which I believe was a backup car and never actually raced. That thing sounded spectacular and weirdly large when considering its Le Mans success.

Has anyone ever seen under the engine cover of this thing?
It's come up on other message boards that it's being passed off as a 388 GTO competition car, and people have their doubts - claiming that it's a kited up 308.

288 GTO, I thought?

There has been a 288 GTO at Katie's before (below). The one you saw on Saturday morning is the one that people have questioned. I've seen neither, so I may have no idea what I'm talking about.
Even if it's a kitted up 308, or a street legal old IMSA GT car or something , it's still neat. Just not if it's trying to be passed of as a OMFG388GTOIJUSTCAME.

They're all good weeks! That's why I hate missing a show. You never know what's going to turn up.

LOL, from the looks of some of the details (dead pedal, footwell diamond plate, and wheels, that link I shared of the IMSA 308 could very well be the same car you saw yesterday.

That car started it's life as a US spec 1980 308 GTSi and went to Japan in 1990 when it was bought by the Art Sports racing team. At some point it was converted to a tube frame race car using GTO body panels from Jim Carpenter. The car raced in the inaugural JGTC race in 1993 as part of the IMSA GT exhibition race in the GTU class but was mothballed after the rules changed in 1994. It sat in the Art Sports warehouse for the next decade or so before it was converted to a track day car in 2006. Sadly the original 3L race motor was long since cannibalized for spares and Art Sports ended up putting in a race version of the Mondial 3.2L motor (ITBs, dry sump, MoTeC engine management). The engine makes an honest 450hp @9000rpm, but now runs a 7800rpm rev limit (good for 400hp). Car weighs 2,380 lb wet (all fluids, 23 gal. of gas) and did a time of 1.19 flat on the main circuit at Summit Point last fall. A 30+ year old on street tires that's as fast a Porsche Cup car.

Looks like someone created an account to post this reply about our mystery 308:
http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/that-car-start…
From the story/description, I think it might actually be the car in the
link
I posted earlier.

It is. Pantera and GT40 genius Ron McCall further modified the car from the way it is was while at Symbolic to it's current state. Is I said in my first post, this car is wicked fast for what it is.

Interesting. I wonder if he/she might be the owner.

Nice.
This 308 has never been at Katie's when I attended, but people have shared photos of it before. There was some confusion because an actual 288 has been there before, and people were under the impression that this was also a 288 because of the bodywork.
Neat car. You mentioned Summit Point, does the owner live in the area?
